Finding health and medical-related information

Directgov does not contain information relating to specific medical conditions or disabilities. This page helps direct you to the type of information you may be looking for.

Choosing the best treatment

The NHS Choices website has information on hundreds of health conditions and treatments. You can use an interactive body map or browse an A to Z list. You can look up a treatment and find hospitals in England that offer it.

You can also compare the clinical quality of hospitals in England offering the most common treatments, and find information about hospital facilities and the views of other patients.

Telephone advice

You can phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for confidential advice and information. They can give you advice if you're feeling unwell, information on a wide range of health topics, and details of your local doctors, pharmacists and many other health services. For more information, see the NHS Direct article below.

Disability and longer-term medical conditions

Directgov has a section for disabled people that covers health and social care assessments, disability equipment, mental health, employing a professional carer and much more. There’s also a contacts list of organisations and charities supporting specific disabilities and conditions.

The Contact a Family website also has medical information on disabilities and rare disorders, and details of support groups.
