Learning for fun can be a great way to relax and socialise. It can be informal and you don't have to learn for a qualification. Free courses are easy to find and you can learn anything – whether it's a new interest or something you already know about.

As well as classes, there are many online courses available. Learning is something you can do any day and at any time, whether you're at home or somewhere like your local library, museum, cinema or art gallery.

Internet use and computer training for over 50s

More and more people now use the internet, and the number of older users is rapidly increasing – users over 50 are set to dominate online shopping by 2010. To make the most of the internet, you'll need basic computer skills and if you haven't already got those then there are courses that can help you get started.

Many courses are free and there are lots of opportunities to learn for free online, including computer and language courses. Local libraries often have a learning section on their websites.You can also get free internet access at your local UK online centre or library.
